You know that sitting on the couch isn’t the best thing for you to do with your free time, but if you’re like most people, you just don’t have the energy to put on your running shoes and hit the pavement. While you aren’t alone in this, it’s a double-edged sword that’s really going to hurt you in the long run. Without exercise, you’ll remain lethargic, and over time, it will become even harder to get off that couch!
There are some simple things that you can do to get back in your exercise groove and work on getting your body in shape though. Keep reading to learn more about how you can keep from being a couch potato for the rest of your life.
Start Walking
Walking is something almost every one of use does, and that’s why we take it for granted as an exercise. It’s actually one of the best things you can do even though it isn’t particularly strenuous or difficult for most people.
Even walking for 30 minutes each day at a moderate pace is a whole lot better than doing nothing. Grab your phone and a pair of headphones or find a walking buddy to make it more interesting. If you have a dog you’ve already got a walking buddy that will be happy to tag along anytime.
Lift Weights
Lifting weights is one of the best things for the budding non-couch potato to do for one simple reason – you can actually do it on the couch. To start lifting, all you really need is a pair of free weights that you can use anywhere.
Look for weights that are easy to lift at first but give you just a bit of a challenge toward the end of a set of 12 or 15. Most people start with weights around 10 or 15 pounds and work their way up from there if they want to build muscle.
Play Sports
A lot of people have a hard time going to the gym or doing things like hiking or jogging regularly. For many people, the difficulty comes with the routine and the fact that it feels like exercise every single time they do it.
To combat some of that, try playing a sport. You’ll be focused on the game mechanics, so you won’t be worried about how far you’ve run. You might even find a new hobby that keeps you in shape.
Make sure you get appropriate mens activewear outwear for any activity you do outdoors too.
